How soon can we begin affair recovery therapy?
With such a big hurt happening, I know that time can be of the essence. I will do my best to get your first session scheduled as soon as possible. Most sessions are able to be scheduled within 1-2 weeks.
How is affair recovery different from regular couples counseling?
In my affair recovery protocol I will meet with each partner individually prior to meeting together (normally I initially meet with the couple as a pair). In addition, there is a greater emphasis on the “stabilization” period of the therapy due to the shock trauma that is often associated with an affair discovery.
How long does affair recovery therapy typically take?
The resulting fallout and recovery from something like this is incredibly unique to each couple. It’s also unique to each couple how much professional support they feel they need in this matter, and the duration of it. What I tell couples is this type of recovery comes in phases, the first few months are a lot of shock and anger, after that there is more confusion/disillusionment. When the relationship continues and trust begins to be reestablished it feels shaky, unsteady. When a couple wants to stay together and repair it can take 2-5 years for it to feel like it’s behind you, a thing of the past. This doesn’t mean you’ll be in therapy that long but it is typical for therapy to be longer-term for this type of injury, 6-12 months, but again, very personalized to the couple.
Do you take insurance for affair recovery therapy?
We are a private pay practice. If your insurance offers out-of-network benefits, we can provide receipts for you to submit for possible reimbursement.
